The Complete Lace Wig Care Guide - Keep Your Wig Looking Like New

So you've invested in a beautiful lace wig from Zodi's Hair. Now what?

With proper care, your lace wig can last 12 months or longer while maintaining its natural look and feel. Here's everything you need to know.

Daily Care Routine

Before Wearing

  • Detangle gently with a wide-tooth comb starting from the ends
  • Style as desired using low heat with heat protectant
  • Apply edge control if needed for your natural hairline

After Wearing

  • Brush gently to remove any tangles
  • Store properly on a wig stand or mannequin head
  • Cover with a silk scarf to protect from dust

Washing Your Lace Wig

Wash your wig every 7–10 wears or every 2 weeks, whichever comes first.

Step-by-Step:

Step 1: Prepare - Fill a basin with cool to lukewarm water - Add a small amount of sulfate-free shampoo - Gently swish to create suds

Step 2: Soak - Submerge the wig and let it soak for 5–10 minutes - Gently swish — do not rub or twist

Step 3: Rinse - Drain the soapy water - Rinse with clean, cool water until all shampoo is removed

Step 4: Condition - Apply sulfate-free conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends - Avoid the lace and roots - Let it sit for 5 minutes - Rinse thoroughly with cool water

Step 5: Dry - Gently pat with a microfiber towel (don't wring or twist) - Place on a wig stand to air-dry - Avoid direct sunlight and heat

⚠️ Never sleep in a wet wig - this causes matting and shortens the lifespan.

Styling Your Lace Wig

Heat Styling

  • ✅ Use heat protectant every time
  • ✅ Keep temperature at 300–350°F (150–180°C)
  • ✅ Test a small strand first
  • ❌ Never use high heat on synthetic lace

Refreshing Curls/Waves

  • Use flexi-rods or perm rods on damp hair
  • Let air-dry completely before removing
  • Finger comb for soft, natural waves

Dealing with Frizz

  • Apply a drop of argan or coconut oil to your palms
  • Gently smooth over the hair
  • Avoid heavy products that cause buildup

Lace Maintenance

Preserving the Lace

  • Be gentle - lace is delicate
  • Avoid getting conditioner on the lace (causes buildup)
  • Clean the lace with rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad if it gets sticky

Refreshing the Hairline

  • Re-pluck any sparse areas with a tweezers
  • Tweeze in a natural pattern - not too uniform
  • Use concealer or foundation on the lace for extra blending

Storage

Short-term (Overnight)

  • Place on a wig stand or mannequin head
  • Cover with a silk or satin scarf
  • Keep away from pets and children

Long-term (Not in Use)

  • Detangle completely
  • Store in a silk or satin bag
  • Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight
  • Never store in a plastic bag (causes frizz)

When to Replace Your Wig

Signs it's time for a new wig: - Excessive shedding (more than a few strands per wear)
- Lace is tearing or losing its shape - Hair is thinning significantly - Tangling that won't resolve with conditioning - Color fading that won't restore

With proper care, a quality wig from Zodi's Hair should last 12–18 months.
